Clipper Gala Dinner raises over £10,000 for nominated charities
Categories: Sweet News
H Sweet and Sons are delighted to report that our recent Clipper Gala Dinner at the Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel raised over £10,000 for Children’s Hospice South West and Unicef. We held the event to support Mike Sweet, H Sweet and Sons Chairman, as he prepares to embark on The Clipper 2017-Race in August 2017.
The event featured an auction with prizes donated by local and national businesses, and a charity casino operated by the Rotary of Nailsea and Backwell. We also enjoyed a wonderfully immersive speech from Manley Hopkinson who spoke about his own experience of sailing – complete with footage from the eye of the storm as he and his crew battled a hurricane. Sailing in such conditions is certainly not for the faint-hearted!
Mike Sweet said “Our Clipper Gala Dinner was a huge success, raising a fantastic sum for our nominated charities. Hearing about Manley’s experience of sailing through Hurricane Michael in a 60-foot yacht gave everyone an appreciation of the challenges I’ll face during the race. I’m now really looking forward to embarking on The Clipper Race and putting my training to the test."
Janey Hellmen, Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser at CHSW said, ‘We are delighted to have the support of Mike and his colleagues who have hit the ground running with their fundraising! We wish Mike every success with the Clipper Race and admire his dedication to raising vital funds to help us make the most of short and precious lives."
More photos from the evening are posted on our Facebook page. We’ll be posting updates both on our website and via Social Media as Mike’s preparation continues and the race commences in August 2017 - follow us on Twitter @Hsweetandsons.
Mike is fundraising via JustGiving. Visit the H Sweet and Sons 2017 team fundraising page for more information and to donate.
