H Sweet and Sons attend the Women In Construction Awards 2017
Categories: Sweet News
A group from H Sweet and Sons attended the 11th Women in Construction Awards, held on 1st March 2017 at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate Hotel. Attended by around 500 guests, the Awards are a chance to celebrate women working throughout the Construction industry, and the event featured categories for each of the different professions and trades.
With Awards celebrating Quantity Surveyor of the Year, Rising Star, Engineer, Tradeswoman and more, we were able to meet outstanding women from across the country who excel in the Construction industry. H Sweet and Sons’ Jessica Tabibi, Quantity Surveyor in our Commercial team based in Bristol, was celebrated as Finalist for the Rising Start - over 25 Award.
The evening’s guest speaker, Debra Searle MBE – who famously rowed across the Atlantic Ocean solo – spoke about sleep deprivation, fear and the near-death experiences she faced whilst rowing a plywood boat across the open ocean. Debra’s speech genuinely gripped us all and her mantra of “choose your attitude” each and every day is one that will stay with us.
The Award’s judging panel featured Construction industry leaders such as Bridget Bartlett, Deputy Chief Executive, CIOB and representatives from RICS, Mears, the Audit Committee and the Construction Youth Trust. Judges videos accompanied the announcement of each winner, highlighting their qualities and achievements in the sector.
The team from H Sweet and Sons thoroughly enjoyed celebrating the achievements of women in construction, and to top off a fun evening the Awards raised over £2000 for the Construction Youth Trust.
